Can you throw away computer batteries?
Most laptop batteries are made of lithium-ion and are classified as “rechargeable” batteries, meaning that you can plug in the device they’re connected to many times to re-power them. When this happens, don’t throw your battery out in your regular trash or recycling!
How do you dispose of a laptop lithium battery?
When you discard them, they must be disposed of at a household hazardous waste collection point (check with your local landfill) or battery recycling drop off location, NOT placed in the trash.
How do you dispose of 12v batteries?
Use the RBRC collection site locator, or call the consumer helpline, 1-800-8-BATTERY, to find the retail collection site nearest you. Non-rechargeable (typically “alkaline batteries”) still don’t have a recycler and general just must be disposed in the trash.
